Crypto units are often subject to modification during complex projects. For example, the crypto unit is added to an existing or unmodifaible system (e.g. onboard computer). Consequently, the crypto unit needs to be adapted to the requirements of the high level system. Over the years, new attack scenarios arise that threaten the security of existent crypto systems, resulting in tighter security requirements.
