PROJECTS
ASDS (formerly DSI) is participating in various large international projects. Thus, our team is highly skilled in design, development, validation, and quality control of hardware and software products. Our products and engineering services are available for both commercial and military applications.
ASDS has extensive experience in the management and engineering of complex aerospace electronics. Some reference projects (ASDS/DSI) and more information about our experience are listed below:
STUDIES
ASDS participated in various large international projects and several cryptography/security-related studies.
Thus, our team is highly skilled in design, development, validation, quality control of Hard- and Software products, and has extensive experience in the management and engineering of complex aerospace electronics. Our services are available for projects and studies in each area.

SAR-Lupe
SAR-Lupe is a high resolution military radar system based on 5 in-orbit satellites for the German Ministry of Defence, built by „OHB System AG“ in Bremen. ASDS was responsible for the design and implementation of the space and ground parts of the crypto system.
SARah
SARah is a follow-up project of the German armed forces to succeed the SAR-Lupe satellites. Both systems can use synthetic aperture radar technology (SAR) to produce high-resolution radar images of the earth’s surface, regardless of light and weather conditions. ASDS developed the cryptosystem for both payload and platform datalink.
ESGA
ESGA (European Secure Ground Architecture) is a collaborative mission in the domain of satellite intelligence within Europe. It plays a vital role in establishing a secure connection between the SAR-Lupe ground system in Germany and the Helios ground system in France. By enabling this secure linkage, ESGA ensures efficient and reliable communication and coordination between the two countries‘ satellite intelligence systems, fostering enhanced situational awareness and operational capabilities.
EuroHawk
EuroHawk is a Global Hawk derivative equipped with a new signal intelligence system sensor developed by EADS. In order to protect the downlink of the recorded data, ASDS conceived and developed the German add-on crypto system to complement the existing US system.
Galileo 2nd Generation
Galileo is Europe’s program for a global navigation satellite system providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service. ASDS currently develops space crypto units for payload and platform and the corresponding Crypto-SCOEs for „Airbus Defence & Space“.
GökTürk
GökTürk is a surveillance satellite for the Turkish army. ASDS designed and developed the satellite primary on-board TM-TC formatting / ciphering / deciphering unit, which performs TC data decryption in the S-Band, TM data encryption in the X-Band and secure telecommand processing. The unit supports multiple X-Band TM channels. Additionally, ASDS developed the ground backup deciphering/ciphering unit.
Galileo
Galileo is Europe’s programme for a global navigation satellite system providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service. ASDS has developed several EGSEs and SCOEs for the Galileo Common Security Box. It includes a large number of different interfaces and is used to test all on-board functions and redundant components simultaneously.
The EGSEs and SCOEs are specially designed to operate in a restricted area and are TEMPEST-approved. The design allows the splitting of the hardware interfaces from the processing part of the EGSE by means of fibre-optic links.
Condor 2
Condor 2 is a reconnaissance pod, which is installed on military aircraft. ASDS delivered end-to-end encryption/decryption units for this system. This comprehensive system includes on-board and ground crypto elements, along with key loading devices, ensuring secure communication and data protection capabilities for the pod.
KompSat 2
KompSat 2 aims to provide surveillance capabilities for large-scale disasters by collecting high-resolution imagery
with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications.
SatComBW II
SatCom BW represents the communication satellites utilized by the German armed forces. ASDS developed the test system for the second generation of these satellites. As part of an obsolescence-removal initiative, ASDS has also designed and constructed the ground crypto unit.
SAT-AIS Data Protection Concept
A fundamental study conducted by ASDS on the security aspects of the European satellite-based Automated Identification System (SAT-AIS). The main objective of the study is to analyze the threats to the AIS data and system, and to compare different potential security countermeasures in order to select an optimal security solution.
PRS-GYRO
PRS-GYRO is a research consortium in collaboration with „Raytheon Anschütz“ and „NavXperience.“ The research project, supported by PTJ (Project Management Agency Jülich), aims to develop a PRS (Public Regulated Service) receiver. ASDS is responsible for creating the cryptographic module for this purpose.
LASER
The goal of LASER is to develop an IP-based high speed encryption / decryption solution based on the IPsec standard. With its 10 Gb/s full-duplex and low-latency throughput, LASER will form the basis for future evaluated and VS-ready products offering even higher speeds of 25, 40 or even 100 Gb/s.
Jupiter
Jupiter is a research project within the research initiative for „Trusted Electronics (ZEUS)“ with the goal of developing hardware trojan-free microelectronics that can be manufactured in an untrusted environment.
